📌 Instead of general advice, I wish to share some reflections from our real experiences this monsoon season at BR Hospital.
“Health is not just about treatment. Taking timely precautions is often the best medicine.”— Dr. Satheesh Kumar
🗣️ A Doctor’s Perspective on Monsoon Health Concerns
Contaminated water, crowded surroundings, and mosquito-prone conditions — all these come together to create a rise in fevers, diarrheal illnesses, and infections like chikungunya. These diseases easily spread from children to adults. Before treatment becomes necessary, taking small preventive measures can make a big difference.
🔍 Important Practices We Must Keep Repeating
Every year, though we see the same pattern of illnesses, there are a few key things I always emphasize — because they truly matter:
Drink only boiled or purified water.
A common cause behind many of this year’s infections was contaminated water.
Eliminate mosquito-breeding sources.
Discard unused containers, and keep the surroundings clean and dry.
Avoid stale food and damp clothing.
Fresh, warm meals and comfortable, dry clothing support better immunity and health.
👨👩👧👦 What Families Should Be Mindful Of
Don’t allow children to play too long in the rain.
Monitor existing conditions like blood pressure and diabetes, especially in elders.
Keep your home surroundings and drinking water sources hygienic and covered.
When such practices are followed consistently in every household, we begin to see fewer emergency cases. That is the real success we strive for.
